Strengthening self-leadership through a leadership development programme.
The situation
A major bank was going through a strategic transformation to drive sustainable and profitable growth. To succeed, they needed leaders equipped with the skills, mindsets, and support to lead in today’s complex world. The HR Director sought an innovative partner to create a leadership programme that could enhance both performance and wellbeing.
The solution
We designed a leadership development programme to support each delegate – from ExCo level through to MD and Director level – to be the Best Possible Leader they could be.
- We took an insight-led approach to inform the design of the programme. We formed an integrated big-picture view of the current landscape and used the resulting insight to create an 8-month programme to address the leaders' specific needs
- Through structured courses, 121 coaching and group coaching, the programme focused on developing the leaders’ self-awareness, self-understanding, self-management and impact
- We collaborated with Birbeck University to conduct pre- and post- programme analysis, enabling us to measure the impact on leadership behaviours, engagement and wellbeing.
The result
The results were transformative:
- Quantitative shifts: Significant improvements in 150 behavioural measures – that can positively impact the organisation and its people in performance, engagement and wellbeing.
- Qualitative feedback: Leaders reported greater confidence, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose. Their teams noticed them becoming more empathetic, open, and proactive.
- ROI: Using academic proxy measures, we saw a 1,460% ROI in retention, 1,680% ROI in strengths-based leadership, and 2,250% ROI in wellbeing.
This programme’s success led to award recognition in 2020; including wins at the BPS and EMCC, and being shortlisted for 4 CIPD awards.
